BOY SCOUT TROOP 609 CELEBRATES 100 YEARS

Troop 609 invites alumni of all ages to participate in a special celebration at Morgan Park United Methodist Church on Friday, November 25, 2022, 7pm-10pm. BSA Troop 609, based in the Beverly / Morgan Park neighborhood of Chicago, is proud to celebrate 100 continuous years of serving youth in the community. To commemorate this milestone, the current members and leaders of Troop 609 invite alumni of all ages to join a special anniversary event on Friday, November 25, 2022, 7pm-10pm at Morgan Park United Methodist Church, 11030 S. Longwood Ave., Chicago, IL 60643. The November 25 event will include refreshments, time to mingle and reconnect with fellow alumni, and a program featuring stories and images from the Troop’s history. Alumni are encouraged to submit their own personal stories and photographs to be included in the program. George Mulcrone, the current Scoutmaster of the Troop comments, "Troop 609 has been a pillar of the Beverly community for 100 years. Founded by the Eppley family and largely led by various generations of Eppleys, Troop 609 has produced over 100 Eagle Scouts. Not every boy or nowadays girls make Eagle Scout - which is the highest Scouting rank; but each young person will learn something from scouting that makes them a better person. Boy Scout Troop 609 of the Pathway to Adventure Council (formerly Chicago Area Council) was Chartered by the Boy Scouts of America to Morgan Park Baptist Church on February 10, 1922. Troop 609 has the longest consecutive number of summers under its own adult leadership at Chicago Area Council’s Owasippe Scout Reservation located near Whitehall, Michigan. Scout Troop 609 has been teaching the Scout Oath and Law to boys since 1922 and to girls since 2019. Troop 609 has served countless youth in the Beverly / Morgan Park community, and produced over 100 Eagle Scouts in its 100 year history.
